We took the train from Rome to Venice and arrived late in the afternoon. During the trip from Rome we were in/out of rain most of the day and saw some flooding in the countryside. Some parts of Venice had minor flooding during high tide but the flooding only lasted a short time.
We awoke to blue skies the next morning and did some sightseeing before checkin at the cruise ship.
Scalzi Church.
The Grand Canal from Scalzi Bridge.
Boots were the “must have” item of the day.
The start of high tide.
In the afternoon the tide had went down but was still close to flooding at St. Marks Square, a low spot in Venice.
Masks are one of the big tourist items in Venice.
It started to cloud up in the afternoon and the gondola rides were easy to get.
Mary and Bet boarding our gondola.
Fred and Bet.
One of the many smaller canals.
Our gondola approaches Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal.
The end of the gondola ride and not too soon, it started raining (again).
St. Marks Square and the Bell Tower.
The next day was foggy but we start with a tour of a glass factory on Murano Island.
With every tour it includes a visit with gift shops.
Nice glass art but $$$.
After the glass factory we visited Burano, a fishing village.
Burano is know for its colorful homes.
St. Marks Square from the cruise ship as we leave Venice.
